Some tips for a successful Plastic Free July:
ASK FIRST– ordering take out and just don’t need all the extra plastic-ware? Say so!
At Basil Tree, we always ask you first if you need paper products and cutlery before including them with your order. Many of our customers have their own silverware and plates to use in meetings when possible. This simple action can help reduce a lot of thoughtless waste!
COMPOST– have left over food or napkins from lunch? Perhaps some compostable cutlery? If your office or city offers composting, make sure to dispose of these items in the correct receptacle.
Basil Tree offers only compostable paper products and cutlery and all of our plastic serving containers can be returned to us for reuse with our Basil Bin program.
Have food scraps at home? Start a compost bin to turn organic waste into food for your garden or contact a local compost pick-up service who will do that work for you!
Here’s some local composters you might consider for this service:
BRING YOUR OWN– need to have your iced coffee fix? Bring your own cup and straw! There are some really great reusable options for both.
Cups:
-an insulated thermos
-your favorite mug
-an empty Teddie peanut butter jar… (this is our preferred method in the Basil Tree office)
Straws:
-stainless steel
-glass
-bamboo
